The Habsburg family is just a “normal” family that made history? In many respects, its members were just people like you and me, and more often than not, whether emperor or not, there were heated argues, intrigues, parties and scandals… at times, life at the Graz court was perhaps like a modern sitcom. Some Habsburgs did not behave in a particularly dignified manner and regularly became the talk of the town in Graz. Others, on the other hand, were particularly close to the people and ‘normal’; they were role models and influencers. Through their buildings, their deeds and their biographies, the Habsburgs are still omnipresent in the city today. Who were they? Where did these home Partys take place and what ideas can we take away for our next party? Sex, drugs and waltz – a completely normal family history.
You can look forward to a guided tour through the old town with amusing anecdotes and background stories about a special family whose members lived, loved and ruled in Graz. No other family has influenced history in Central Europe, far beyond the Austrian borders, as much as the Habsburgs. And they did not ‘spare’ the Styrian capital either. Under the Habsburgs, Graz was fortified and expanded, turned into a university city and a training ground for future leaders, a centre of art and culture, and a popular retirement destination. It was periods of prosperity and change that made Graz what it is today.
